The Hertz Corporation , the world's largest car rental company, is the exclusive car rental company for the 2001 Annual World Congress of the Society for the Advancement of Travelers with Handicaps (SATH), in Fort Lauderdale, from January 24 - 28, 2001.

During the conference, Hertz will display a vehicle equipped with a hand control and spinner knob from January 24 through noon on January 27, 2001. The vehicle will be located in the reserved parking area on the rooftop parking deck adjoining the host hotel (Hilton Fort Lauderdale Airport). Hertz is also hosting a booth at the Conference and has discounted car rental rates available for conference attendees.

The Congress is commemorating SATH's 25th Anniversary as a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting worldwide, barrier-free travel. SATH educates the travel and hospitality industry about the needs of travelers with disabilities and the benefits of reaching out to this large and dynamic market.

Joseph Nothwang, Hertz' Executive Vice President and President, Vehicle Rental and Leasing, The Americas and Pacific, commented, "We're pleased to be a sponsor of SATH's World Congress. Representing travelers with disabilities for the past 25 years, Hertz proudly supports SATH's mission to promote barrier-free travel around the world for handicapped individuals."

Hertz has been providing services to travelers with disabilities since 1965; the first year the company introduced vehicles with hand controls into its rental fleet. Most recently, the company completed the nationwide rollout of its Easy Access bus into its airport shuttle fleet. The bus, the first low-floor, environmentally friendly bus of its kind utilized by the car rental industry, is designed with a unique 16-inch "low-floor." The burdens of travel for the physically challenged are made even lighter because the bus can "kneel" an additional 4-inches at the curb. The bus also has a simple-to-release electronic ramp that provides easy access for wheelchairs or scooters. Once on board, wheelchairs may be secured with specialized, ADA compliant, safety belts.
